From the second you’re born the universe starts playing with your fader And there’s no correlation with your behavior No it doesn’t matter if you're a lover or a hater In the end we all end up as nothing but bones and vapor And what’s written on our souls like words on paper Until then you’ll have to find your way Yes you’ll have to find your way Yes I hope you find your way Bones and vapor

Yes I'll gladly be your replacement Yes I'll live down in that dark lonely basement Don't worry I have zero displacement Yes I'm nothing to this world Yes I'm nothing to this world Yes I'll gladly be your replacement But please first explain the rules of engagement And why in the end everything leads to estrangement And why I feel like nothing to this world And why I feel like nothing to this world Yes I'll gladly be your replacement Continued...

As you were going down you left parts of you scattered around just enough to remember you As you were going down tattered and about to hit the ground that's not the way any of us wanted to remember you Oh sunrise oh another day Wish you would have found another way As you were going down you left parts of you scattered around just enough to remember you Continued...

Strangest thing you’ve ever seen, explain again what you mean, things will never be the same Just one of those things that happens in the back of a limousine, to break up the routine, oh things will never be the same Oh things will never be the same No things will never be the same Strangest thing you’ve ever seen, explain again what you mean Continued...

I'm so sorry I left you standing out there in the rain But I was being held in an asylum for the romantically insane But I will always wave to you Because waving at strangers is what we do I'll wave hello and goodbye to you I’ll wave and wave and wave and wave to you I’ll wave and wave until I die to you To you to you to you Oh I'm so sorry Continued...

Through all of the heartache and all of the pain Tell me again what do we gain When you look in the mirror you feel so very plain Like just another loser without a name Thought I’d survive if I had a properly functioning brain Or go into a different universe if I could just find the right train Apparently it doesn’t matter if you’re crazy or sane In the end it all ends up in vain So tell me again for the heartache and pain what exactly is it we gain Continued...

I’m so sorry you look so German sorta speak I’ve heard growing up in Berlin can make things look pretty desperate and bleak And existential thoughts can often circulate through your brain for weeks and weeks I’m so sorry you look so German sorta speak Continued...

about

WHAT'S GOING ON HERE EXACTLY?

First, let me say I’m releasing three digital versions of each album. Each version with it's own purpose. The “short demo” versions of songs are meant to facilitate the transmission of short song memes in social media in order to gain awareness for the whole “Zenwarren” experiment and help me figure out which songs should be released as fully produced singles before "studio" albums start coming out. The singles helping finance and provide traction to the rest of the project. A project which by the way I have been referring to in my head for the last two years or so as the “Casting Shadows on Dreams” project named after the never released album that contained many of the songs that inspired these ten albums.

To achieve my goals for the “short demos” I felt that each demo had to play as a self-contained unit or “mini song” rather than like the usually random excerpts from release versions of songs found on Spotify and Apple Music that seldom give any insight into the “essence” of a song. The “mini song” strategy turned out to have an unanticipated bonus. When I started putting “mini songs” together I ended up with “mini albums.” When I tried the same thing with song excerpts - that have no real beginning, middle or end - I just ended up with an effing mess.

As far as the “solo acoustic” versions of the albums I just kind of imagine them as an intimate thank you gift to those fans that supported the “Zenwarren” experiment from the start. As much as I’d love to do more, the “solo acoustic” version will probably be as close as either one of us will come to me performing for you personally in your living room or a random street at 4:30 in the morning. The “solo acoustic” version will also serve as a kind of vocal, lyrical and arrangement shake down recording that fans can comment on for a month or so before I start work on the “studio” version of an album.

After I’ve stopped receiving significant feedback on the “solo acoustic” version of an album I’ll go into the studio and put together the “studio” release version. The version that will pleasure true Zenwarrenites the most greatly. A version loyal to it’s minimalist origins but with just enough percussion, cellos, harmonies and orchestral troupes and acoustic oddities to hold up under endless listenings. A version that will lead to substantial numbers of casual converts to Zenwarrenism. But we here today will always know who the real Zenwarrenites are. Thank you. - MZ

about

Michael Zenwarren Colorado

It all started with writing a few songs. Saying a few things in what I thought was an elegant and artful way. Soon it became obsession. Then I thought in this day and age obsession is meant to be shared with the world because the world is obsessed with obsession. Well here are ten brand new pre-production albums - for all of us to start obsessing over until the obsession is total. Thanks - MZ ... more
